ANWaR is a wilderness reserve in Alaska. It was originally signed into protective status by Jimmy Carter. He allowed drilling but only if Congress would approve it. That approval is the modern issue that follows every Congressman at election time. One man is very much against drilling ANWaR. He writes: Don’t you people get it? It’s a wildlife reserve. Leave the animals alone! There’s not many more places in the country with untouched wilderness. Other people are all for drilling ANWaR. They aren’t worried about the impact to the wild. One of them wrote: To say we can destroy nature is arrogant. We won’t harm any carribou by drilling. It just won’t happen. Herds of Buffalo didn’t find a way. Now we have no buffalo. Recently Senator John McCain discussed allowing drilling ANWaR while he ran for President. He mentioned that if it was limited and done in a safe manner, it was a good idea. He lost twice when he asked the people to make him President. But he can vote for drilling ANWaR whenever he wants from his seat in the Senate. There’s often anger over drilling ANWaR. What if I wanted something out of your house? What if I set up drilling equipment to block you from getting to the kitchen? You wouldn’t like it. The answer is: No, you wouldn’t set up drilling equipment in someone’s house. You’d be arrested for trespassing. People aren’t animals. Homes aren’t the wilderness. More oil is needed each day ? it’s a fact that drives this issue. Would you allow drilling ANWaR if it were your decision? If you enjoyed this post, make sure you subscribe to my RSS feed!
